As humans there’s only so much we can hold. When demands are too high we get overwhelmed – just as a bucket would overflow if it keeps getting filled up. This doesn’t mean the bucket is broken, damaged or not good enough – it’s just physics.
When we are feeling overwhelmed we can spend a lot of time berating ourselves for not being better buckets, when actually our buckets are fundamentally fine.
There are, though, things we can do to support our buckets and keep things flowing and working as best we can: disconnecting, connecting, doing what matters, and making room through self-compassion.
